The originating patent describes it as obtained by solution-phase peptide synthesis and characterizes it as a white amorphous odourless powder. It has the molecular formula C15H26N4O8, a molecular weight of approximately 390.39 g/mol. Its sequence is Lys-Glu-Asp (KED). In cultured vascular endothelial cells KED is reported to modulate expression of the proliferation-associated MKI67 gene; the promoter interaction is proposed on the basis of molecular docking rather than experimental structural evidence.
