Bronchogen is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu, AEDL) from the short-peptide bioregulator series developed at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It was identified by UHPLC-MS within a bronchial polypeptide preparation and is now produced synthetically; it is a defined synthetic peptide, not a tissue extract. It has the molecular formula C18H30N4O9 and a molecular weight of approximately 446.46 g/mol. Its sequence is Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu (AEDL). In the published literature AEDL is reported to alter expression of differentiation markers in cultured aging bronchial epithelial cells and to bind DNA and histone proteins in vitro; the binding sites described come from fluorescence-quenching assays and molecular modeling rather than solved structures. The originating patent describes the material as a white amorphous odourless powder. Supplied as a white to off-white lyophilized powder, stored refrigerated at 2–8 °C.
