Cardiogen is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg, AEDR) from the short-peptide bioregulator series developed at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It was identified by UHPLC-MS within a cardiac (myocardial) polypeptide preparation and is now produced synthetically; it is a defined synthetic peptide, not a tissue extract. It has the molecular formula C18H31N7O9 and a molecular weight of approximately 489.49 g/mol. Its sequence is Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg (AEDR). In the published literature AEDR is reported to bind histone proteins in vitro and has been studied in rodent heart-tissue explant cultures. The name is shared with unrelated products: CardioGen-82 is a rubidium-82 radiopharmaceutical, and PubChem’s name resolver maps “Cardiogen” to L-carnitine.
