Livagen is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala, KEDA) from the short-peptide bioregulator series developed at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It was designed from the amino-acid composition of a liver polypeptide extract, with a Glu-Asp core flanked by Lys and Ala; it is a defined synthetic peptide, not an extract. It has the molecular formula C18H31N5O9 and a molecular weight of approximately 461.47 g/mol. Its sequence is Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala (KEDA). In the published literature KEDA is reported to raise protein synthesis in cultured aged rat hepatocytes and to alter heterochromatin condensation in cultured lymphocytes; it is also reported to resist intestinal peptide hydrolases in vitro. The originating patent describes the material as a white amorphous powder. Supplied as a white to off-white lyophilized powder, stored refrigerated at 2–8 °C. This product is strictly for research purposes only.
